Alex Gold Pinot Noir 2018

Central Otago, New Zealand
LambPork
  • Pinot that's living on the Edge
  • Grown in Alexandra - home of the South Islands first vineyard and the worlds southernmost wine region.
  • Alex Gold Pinot Noir is just as spectacular as it's story with it Gold medal winning formula - Gold by name, Gold by nature
  • Case of 6 ($26.90/bottle)
Alexandra Wine Company (AWC) are winegrowers on the southern edge of where vines can grow. For Alexandra is the southern most wine region in the world Fortunately the Alexandra region is nestled in own little microclimate that makes grape growing possible. Yes the winters are super chilly, perfect when the vines are asleep, but its dry hot summers that the grapes love most. Owner by David and Shona Garry harvest most of their grapes from AWC's home block, called the Davishon vineyard (i'll give you two  guesses on how it was named Davishon) who despite being so far south are not the only one's growing grapes at this latitude. As it turns out the Davishon vineyard is right next door to Central Otago's oldest vineyard planted why back in the 60's - 1860's that is! by a Frenchie named Jean Desire Feraud. 150 years later AWC's Pinot Noir that is raising eyebrows and the Pinot thats in Alex Gold is stunning. For such a spectacular story Alex Gold Pinot Noir matches it in flavour. There is plenty of characters to pick up on the way -  fruits of cherries, plums, and blackberries start the experience with hints of black pepper and dark chocolate note with touches of schist minerals and fine tannins to finish. Alex Gold generally flies under the radar but it definately worth checking out.
