Villa’s Syrah destined for the Cellar Selection label is a regional blend of Hawke’s Bay fruit. 65% comes from the esteemed Gimblett Gravels area with the remainder from the Dartmoor Valley. This blend is a great representation to how well the Syrah is doing in the Bay, and from this drop – tis doing pretty well! All of the fruit was hand harvested based on flavour profiling of the grapes to make sure they in tip top shape. Fermentation occurred in open top tanks with regular plunges to extract rich colour and textural tannins.The winemakers at Villa have produced medium bodied style supple, fruity and just enough grip between your lips to satisfy the Syrah traditionalists. The deep colour starts CS Syrah affair followed by aromas of violets, plums, and an ounce of pepper spice. In the mouth this wine covers all bases – silky texture, pure fruit, integrated tannins, and a lengthy finish that wants to be joined by a good hearty meal. This red has a huge drinkability factor but will really add to the experience when drunk with a meal of duck or venison.
